Chess Rocket
Six engineers working as the product’s engineering team for five months
Our team owned delivery across web, iOS/Android, admin and backend, working in weekly rounds set by the client’s feedback. We shipped every feature across all four codebases at once and moved releases to gated dev, pre-prod and production environments on Azure.
6 engineers · ~5 months · ongoing
“Took Chess Rocket from idea to live product, building puzzles, real-time play and community features that just work. Highly recommended.”
Every feature had to land in four separate codebases
Store purchases did not unlock premium on Android or show on iOS
No separate environments; changes went straight to users
After
Weekly feature rounds shipped across web, mobile, admin and backend
Store subscriptions fixed end to end
Gated dev → pre-prod → production releases, with an onboarding handover

LadyLight
AI engineers who grew into the platform team
Our team owned the backend and AI features alongside the client, first as a build and then on retainer. We moved a browser extension’s model calls behind a secure per-team backend, shipped new GPT-builder features, and added server-side roles and error monitoring.

“Really happy with LadyLight. It looks great, works smoothly and you can tell a lot of care went into it. Great job!”
An engineer we propose after the backlog call, matched to your stack, seniority and hours. You meet them privately before anything starts, and we confirm their experience, hours and responsibilities in writing, so you know exactly who will access your systems.
They join your standups, repository, tracker and reviews, and your Slack or Teams, working remotely from our delivery team in Lahore, Pakistan. Hours start at 20 per week, with overlap and a spending cap agreed in writing. You set priorities and accept the work, your tech lead reviews code and sets technical direction, and you get a written progress update every week. Your Octacer contact handles staffing, cover and any concerns.
There is no upfront payment. Evaluate one engineer for five working days at the hours and rate agreed in advance. If you decline at the end, there is no trial charge. If you continue, all recorded trial hours are billed at the agreed rate on your first invoice. One trial per company; continuation requires written approval. Trial deliverables are for evaluation until paid, while your existing code and data remain yours.
Companies with ongoing work for the role, a budget that fits the hourly rate and agreed weekly hours, and someone who can review the engineer’s work. We confirm this on the backlog call, so the week is a real evaluation for both sides.
Not necessarily, and it does not need to be. The week is for judging the engineer’s work, communication and fit. We pick a task that shows real progress in five days.
We ask for access and a reviewer on your side before day one. If missing access or approvals still block the engineer, we pause the trial and reschedule the remaining days once, within two weeks.
We review the work and fit on day five. If you approve continuation in writing, the first invoice includes the trial hours and subsequent approved hours at the agreed rate. If you decline, we stop with nothing to pay for the trial. No automatic continuation.
Your tech lead, by default: you own priorities, product decisions and acceptance of work. If you have no lead in-house, add our Tech lead role, or choose a Forward Deployed Engineer to work directly with whoever owns the product.
On your side: priorities and requirements, product decisions, access to your tools and internal approvals, and accepting completed work. Code review and technical direction sit with your tech lead. On Octacer’s side: matching the engineer to your stack and hours, availability, leave and cover, regular performance check-ins, an escalation contact, and a replacement, introduced first, if the match is not right.
The engineer who passes the trial stays on your work. If a change ever becomes necessary, or the match is not right, tell your Octacer contact: we propose a replacement, introduce them first, and hand over the work so you do not start again.
Agree 20 or more hours per week, your working-day overlap and a weekly cap. Billing uses recorded approved hours, not a fixed 160-hour monthly assumption. Public holidays and planned leave are shared in advance, with cover for longer absences.
Our engineers work from our delivery team in Lahore, Pakistan, and join your tools remotely: your Slack or Teams, your repository, your tracker.
After the trial, notice is 14 days from the day you give it. Agreed work continues within your approved hours and cap; the final invoice covers recorded approved hours. Declining at the trial review does not require 14 days’ notice.
Within three business days of agreeing a matched engineer, as long as access is ready. If no suitable engineer is free, we tell you on the call rather than send someone who does not fit.
